Although teenagers usually don’t think about how to earn their first million or to set-up new businesses, 400 youths aged 16 to 19 from tertiary institutes had an insider look into the world of entrepreneurship at nEbO’s annual Youth Entrepreneurship Symposium (YES) 2014 today. Organised by nEbO, the junior membership arm of the Labour Movement, participating youths will go through three intensive but fun days of motivational talks, industrial visits, networking session and also business pitch simulations at the Mochtar Riady Building, National University of Singapore (NUS).

Youths encouraged to pay it forward and stand up for what they believe in at nEbO Spirit of Youth Awards
It was a night of glitz and glamour at the Gardens by the Bay as the youth community of the Labour Movement recognised and awarded its youth leaders at the nEbO Spirit of Youth Awards 2014. The award ceremony was attended by Guest of Honour, Acting Minister for Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth Mr Lawrence Wong who encouraged the youths to inspire people and have a positive impact on society. In his speech to the youths, Acting Minister Mr Lawrence Wong also commented that he is glad that nEbO youths have found meaningful causes to stand for, which is indicative of Singaporean youths in general now.

For youths who made a New Year resolution to volunteer in 2014, nEbO, the NTUC community for youths aged 12 to 25, made it easy for them to get started and find an opportunity that fitted their interest and schedule. For the entire month of January, youths were invited to join the W.I.S.H. campaign to give back and make a difference through community service. nEbO’s W.I.S.H., which stands for Ways In Sharing Happiness, aimed to encourage young people to band together to make a bigger impact in sharing happiness and to better the lives of others. This year, W.I.S.H. involved 400 youth volunteers, up from just 160 in 2013, who contributed their time and energy to bring smiles and brighten up the lives of 385 beneficiaries.

Shan You Counselling Centre received a donation of $300,000 from NTUC Club and nEbO today at a pre-Chinese New Year celebratory dinner. The funds were raised through nEbO’s L.O.V.E. movement, which aims to encourage youths and the public to spare a thought and care for the less fortunate. L.O.V.E. is one of nEbO’s Life-Ready initiatives under its Care community which hopes to instil a sense of social responsibility among youths, spark their passion for volunteerism and encourage youth leaders to step up to inspire their peers.
