Thank Your Intern Day 2016

Thank Your Intern Day 2016

About Thank Your Intern Day (TYID)

TYID is a social movement started by members of nEbO, the junior membership arm of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) in 2013. It began with a group of youths wanting to encourage the appreciation of interns among employers and to bring awareness of fair workplace practices. This is the fourth year that nEbO is organising TYID and the team also highlighted the importance of quality internship and how this enables youths to develop their capabilities and gain meaningful work experiences.

In 2013 and 2014, we garnered more than 1000 signatures in support of TYID at an outreach at Raffles Place on 10 October. Last year, nEbO reached out to over 450 interns and employers at different institutions and organisations to distribute Intern Care Packs as well as to spread the TYID message. The Care Pack contained a useful tumbler and a “Learning Log” saved on a USB flashdrive of which interns are encouraged to fill up the log to reflect on their internship experiences and contributions. At the Bugis+ roadshow on 10 October 2015, photos and testimonies from the previous outreach efforts were displayed, spreading the message and benefits of quality internship experiences. Office cubicles, and even a pantry was set up, so that students and young visitors at the roadshow can learn about internships in an interesting way through fun and engaging videos and games in an office setting. They also took part in the interactive “workplace rights” quizzes and a “fastest fingers” typing game.
